Raw Ingredients: Tybee's Intimate Sushi Counter
Sushi, sake, bowls and salads at 18C Tybrisa Street, on an island where dinner otherwise arrives out of a fryer. It's about 114 yards from our front door, which changes what a spontaneous dinner looks like.

Most of what gets ordered on this island arrives hot and breaded. That isn't a complaint. Fried shrimp is something Georgia's coast does genuinely well, and a basket of it with the right view has never needed defending. But it's the default here in a way that catches up with you, usually somewhere around the third dinner of a long weekend, when one of you says "not fried" and the other one nods and neither of you has a second suggestion.
Raw Ingredients is the second suggestion. It's a small sushi spot at 18C Tybrisa Street, and from our front door on Silver Avenue it's about 114 yards. Around the corner, two minutes, less if you're hungry.
What it is
The restaurant runs its own site at rawtybee.com, where it styles itself RAW INGREDIENTS under the tagline "Social Sushi." The menu is organized into two pairs: sushi and sake, bowls and salads. It's posted as a PDF rather than a web page, which is a small detail that tells you something about the scale of the operation. This is not a place with a marketing department.
It's also listed in the Tybee Island Main Street business directory, which is the island's own roster of local businesses, and the phone number is consistent everywhere it appears: (912) 499-4178.
What we can't give you is an origin story. We don't know who opened it or when, and we haven't found a source we'd trust on either. Plenty of restaurant write-ups would invent that paragraph. We'd rather leave the gap visible and spend the words on things we can actually stand behind.
The room is small. That much is plain from the storefront. We're not going to give you a seat count, because we don't have one, and "limited seating" is the kind of phrase that sounds like reporting while meaning nothing.
Why a sushi restaurant matters more here than it would somewhere else
In a city, a small sushi counter is one option among forty. On a barrier island with a fixed number of kitchens, it's a category all by itself.
Think about what a three or four night beach trip actually does to your appetite. The first dinner is exciting no matter what it is, because you just arrived and the air smells like salt. By the second you've had seafood twice, counting lunch. By the third, the thing you want isn't better fried food. It's a different register entirely: something cold, something clean, something that doesn't sit on you before a walk to the water.
There's a practical version of that argument too. A day on the sand in Georgia in summer is a genuinely depleting thing, and the meal that follows it can either restore you or finish you off. Sushi and a bowl of rice does the first. Which is why, on a lot of stays, this ends up being the meal on the night you have the least energy left, not the night you have the most.
The two-minute walk changes the decision, not just the trip
We keep coming back to the distance, and it's worth explaining why.
Most restaurant recommendations here come with a car attached. Sea Wolf is 2.1 miles up at 106 S Campbell Ave on North Tybee, which is five minutes of driving and a deliberate decision. Bubba Gumbo's is 4.3 miles the other way at the Tybee Island Marina, out on Lazaretto Creek, and that one is close to an outing. Both are good. Both are on our dining page for a reason. Neither is something you do on a whim at a quarter to six with wet hair.
Raw Ingredients is. That's the whole point of it. Two minutes means the decision doesn't have to be a plan. Nobody has to look up an address, nobody moves the car, and if the wait is long you can walk back and try again in twenty minutes without having wasted anything but the walk.
Parking is the underrated half of this. Ours is free and on site, one car per room. Off the property, public parking runs $4 an hour across the island, enforced 8 AM to 8 PM year-round. So an evening where the car never leaves our lot has a real number attached to it, and this is the dinner that makes that possible.
About the hours, which we're not going to print
Here is the honest situation, because we'd rather explain it than quietly guess.
The restaurant takes one weekday off. We know that much. What we can't tell you is which day, because the sources disagree with each other. The Tybee Island Main Street directory names one closing day. Yelp and the aggregator listings that follow it name two different ones. The restaurant's own site publishes no hours at all, which means there's no tiebreaker.
So: it's open for lunch and dinner most days, and you should check before you go. The website is rawtybee.com and the phone is (912) 499-4178. Thirty seconds on the phone beats a two-minute walk to a locked door, and it beats reading a confident schedule on a hotel blog that turns out to be wrong.
This is also why we've never pinned it to a named weeknight in any of our itineraries. A plan that puts sushi on a specific day here has a failure mode built into it, and it's an easy one to avoid.
The rest of what we don't know
Short list, offered plainly, because a spotlight that pretends to omniscience isn't much use.
Reservations. No source either way. We don't know whether they take them, so we're not going to tell you they do or don't. Call and ask if it matters to your evening.
Takeout. Same answer. If eating in the room is the plan, confirm it on the phone first.
Drinks beyond sake. Sake is on their own menu. Anything past that, we can't confirm.
You'll find write-ups elsewhere that describe the place in warmer terms than this, including claims about how the kitchen handles allergies. We've dropped those. Not because we doubt anyone's experience, but because we couldn't source them, and an allergy assurance is exactly the kind of thing a reader could be hurt by trusting from a stranger. If you have an allergy, that conversation belongs with the restaurant directly, not with us.
What's left after all that subtraction is still a real recommendation: a small sushi room, two minutes from our door, cooking in a register the fryers around it don't touch.
Building an evening around it
The shape that works best is the simplest one. Eat early, then walk to the water.
The beach is about 300 yards from us, five minutes on foot, and the walk from dinner back past the inn and onto the sand is the part of the night people actually remember. Time it against sunset if you can. The light hangs around after the sun goes, and that stretch is the better half of the show anyway.
One rule to know in advance: glass is banned on the beach by city ordinance. That isn't a suggestion and it isn't loosely enforced. If a toast is part of the plan, it happens at the table or up on our rooftop afterward, which is a quiet spot above the property and a better place for it regardless. Carry two glasses up and let the beach walk be about the beach.
The morning after deserves a plain word too, because we don't serve breakfast on site and we won't imply otherwise. Sunrise Restaurant at 1511 Butler Avenue is about 150 yards from our door and opens at 6 AM daily. Mi Vida, a few minutes further up Butler, is the lighter café version of the same idea. Both are on our dining page, along with the short list of everywhere else we'd send you.
For everything else a couple can do with a Tybee weekend, our complete guide to Tybee Island for couples covers the full picture, and 9 romantic things to do on Tybee Island is the shorter version if you only need ideas for one evening.
If it's closed the night you want it
Which, given the hours situation, is a real possibility worth planning for.
Sea Wolf is the version of this trade you make when you want an occasion. Oysters, house-made sausage, cocktails that take a minute, real vegan options, and menus that change often enough that the restaurant's own site sends you to Instagram for the current one. The mechanic is unusual and you should know it going in: there is no telephone, by their own admission, and no reservations. You walk in and put your name down.
Bubba Gumbo's is the other direction, creekside at 1 Old US Hwy 80 next to the shrimp docks, Cajun-leaning local seafood, at it since 1997. Reported hours for that one don't agree either, so call (912) 786-4445 before you drive out.
And if the answer is "we're too tired to go anywhere," that's a legitimate outcome too. It's why the two-minute option is worth knowing about in the first place.
Planning a stay around a good dinner
We're a 19-room independent inn on Silver Avenue, about 300 yards from the beach, with four room types including the two we're known for, the Red Room and the Penthouse. Every room here sleeps two, which tells you most of what you need to know about who we're set up for. There's no pool on this property, though guests do have access to pools at our sister Tybee properties. Parking is free and on site, check-in is at 4 PM, and the rooftop is open to guests.
Our standing offers take 10% off two nights and 15% off three, laid out on the special offers page. Three nights is also, not coincidentally, about the point in a trip when you start wanting something that isn't fried.

FAQ
Common questions.
Is there sushi on Tybee Island?
Yes. Raw Ingredients at 18C Tybrisa St serves sushi and sake, bowls and salads. It's a small room, and it's about 114 yards from Atlantis Inn on Silver Avenue, around the corner and roughly a two-minute walk. Phone is (912) 499-4178 and the restaurant's own site is rawtybee.com.
What are Raw Ingredients' hours?
We're not printing hours, because we can't stand behind any set we've seen. The restaurant publishes none on its own site, and the directory listings that do carry hours disagree about which weekday it closes. It's open for lunch and dinner most days. Call (912) 499-4178 or check rawtybee.com before you walk over.
How far is Raw Ingredients from Atlantis Inn?
About 114 yards. You turn the corner from Silver Avenue onto Tybrisa Street and you're there in about two minutes on foot. There's no reason to move the car.
Does Raw Ingredients take reservations?
We couldn't confirm a policy either way, so we won't state one. If you're planning around a specific time, call (912) 499-4178 and ask.
Where can I see the Raw Ingredients menu?
On the restaurant's own site, rawtybee.com, where it's posted as a PDF. The menu is organized as sushi and sake, bowls and salads.
